About the founder

Iván Ríos Mena

As a lawyer, Iván Ríos Mena has counseled individuals and companies in startup, corporate, commercial, intellectual property, immigration, and civil litigation matters. He’s also been Chief Operating Officer and Acting Director of a large science and technology nonprofit in Puerto Rico, where he reorganized its administrative and operational structure while leading the launch of several of its flagship programs.

From that position he collaborated in the creation of Parallel18, a global science and technology startup accelerator which now has a portfolio of 100+ Seed/Series A companies from over 40 countries in different industries, and which have collectively raised over $40M in venture capital funding from global investors. There he was Chairman of its Investment Committee. He also helped establish a Technology Transfer Office and an initiative to create and implement Puerto Rico’s first competitive peer-reviewed science and technology research grants program, with an annual budget of $4 million for basic and applied research.

From the government side, he was Under Secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico, in charge of several strategic projects.

Iván is now combining his unique legal, business, and operational experience to serve entrepreneurs and companies in an entrepreneurial and strategic way, made possible by his varied 10-year background.
